John and Jill share a passion for photography that they have built into a business. Married in 1991 they originally met through their involvement in the sport of gliding. John was a high country farmer successfully growing crops in the drought prone Hakataramea Valley. Jill was a nurse from Auckland. They now have two sons and live in Christchurch. They are both glider pilots and it is no coincidence that some of their most stunning photographs are images of soaring in the scenic southern mountains.
John has had a life long interest in photography, converting his Dad's study into a dark room at an early age. He studied for a Bachelor of Commerce in Agriculture at Lincoln University in Canterbury and went on to run one of the most successful mixed cropping farms in South Canterbury. Since leaving farming in 1995 he was worked for a number of farm supply and advisory companies. He currently works for Luisetti Seeds in Canterbury. His work gives him ample opportunity to photograph agricultural scenes and farmers in action. His photographs appear on the Luisetti Calendar and in brochures and advertising posters for Gliding New Zealand and companies such as Syngenta, Dow Agrosciences and Seed Force. He has an extensive photo library of crops, agricultural machinery and farmers in action as well as macro images of pests and diseases. Agricultural aircraft are a favourite subject.
Jill is editor of SoaringNZ, New Zealand's premier soaring magazine. She is the writer in this partnership, but is also an accomplished photographer in her own right. She provides the words, and in some cases the photos in many successful magazine stories. She has recently completed a Bachelor of Science; an individual major that allowed her to gain a broad science base. Her BSc built on earlier training as a Registered Nurse. She has a special interest in ecology and entomology and has spent the last two summers working as an Entomology Technician with Plant and Food Research (previously Hortresearch). Previous writing credits include The Otago Daily Times, The Christchurch Press and Pacific Wings Magazine. |
