NZ's go-gettem junior team of Alex McCaw and Nick Oakley are now officially representing NZ at the World Small wing contest in Lithuania in July. Nick is already in the UK on a two year work visa. Alex is working at getting his visas but has a Cirrus lined up to fly. After their taste of international competition in Australia they are heading for a "big boys" contest. SoaringNZ will of course be following their progress.
News - December 2015
Junior World Gliding Contest - Narromine, NSW, Australian. Alex McCaw, Jill and John's oldest son placed 12th overall in Standard Class. In a fantastic performance from Nick Oakley and Alex in their first international contest. With three flying days left Alex was sitting in 3rd place overall but difficult conditions on day seven saw him drop in the rankings. It was a nailbiting contest with the scores too close to call for the last half of the contest. Nick never managed to recover from a landout, within spitting distance of the finishing circle on day one.
Congratulations to our boys. You did a great job.
News - March 2014
We are just about to start putting together the third of our updated, bigger and better magazines. The feedback we are receiving on the new look and all the great content is telling us that we are doing this right.
And in other news - the McCaw family is now well settled in our new home, rebuilt on our old site after our original house was broken in the September 2010 quake. We now have all the mod cons, including a concrete drive laid earlier in the month. John has sewn lawn and that should be sprouting any day. Jill is loving her new purpose built office and the large airy kitchen. The last thing left to do is to find homes for all the "stuff" left in the garage so that one day the car can live there. It's been a busy time since we moved in the week before Xmas but it finally feels that the end has arrived and we can farewell the upsetting and unsettling last few years.
SoaringNZ is going quarterly. We will now have four big issues a year, covering soaring news when it happens.
